Gerry McGeough - Irish nationalist imprisoned

Whatever your position on the Irish question, the continuing imprisonment by the British state of Irish nationalist Gerry McGeough is a disgrace!

Was it something that he said (rather than what he actually did!) that keeps him behind bars?

Gerry McGeough has said he disagrees with the political direction Sinn Fein has taken of late but supports the peace process and does not want a return to violence. His supporters in Ireland claim he was singled out for special treatment by the state because he broke with Sinn Fein. McGeough stood against the party as an Independent nationalist candidate and this move resulted in his arrest and incarceration for a shooting that happened over thirty years ago.

It would appear that Gerry McGeough rejects Sinn Fein now because of its left-wing views on issues such as immigration. He is a genuine nationalist and therefore a threat to the liberal status quo. He supports traditional Catholic views on issues such homosexuality and is anti-abortion.

You can watch a video in support of his early release made by his young family.
